ABOUT US
The "Pinelands Retriever Club" is based out of Southern New Jersey. The club was founded to
help serve the needs of all of its members regardless of what level of training they are working
toward with their retriever.
It is the intention of the Pinelands Retriever Club to be well-rounded in its membership and
functions. We have activities for the hunting retriever, hunt test participants as well as field trial
competitors. Throughout the year, the club hosts activities to promote family participation where
everyone involved can just have fun together. We have activities for all levels of retrievers from
puppy to advanced.
We offer our members the following:
Training Sessions
Club Trials
Picnic Trials
Gun Dog Stakes
These events will give everyone an opportunity to work their dogs on shot flyers and to provide
help in training their retrievers. We also hope to provide a social atmosphere at the end of the
day.
The objectives of the club are:
To promote the training of pure-bred dogs
Disseminate knowledge regarding retriever field training
Conduct classes for the training of dogs and their families
Encourage the training of judges
Hold and support field trials and hunting tests under the rules and regulations of the
American Kennel Club
Promote cooperation and good sportsmanship among its members in the training and
exhibition of dogs
We are an AKC sanctioned club, able to hold our own hunt tests and field trials. This will give
everyone an opportunity to participate in these events without having to travel long distances.
Club Code of Conduct
The Pinelands Retriever Club of New Jersey, Inc., as a sanctioned AKC club, follows a code of
conduct that is in line with that of the American Kennel Club. As outlined in our Constitution
and By-Laws, and with everyone’s signature on their Membership Application, as a club
member you have agreed to the following:
To promote the training of pure-bred dogs
Disseminate knowledge regarding retriever field training
Conduct classes for the training of dogs and their handlers
Encourage the training of judges
Hold and support field trials and hunting tests under the rules and regulations of the
American Kennel Club
Promote cooperation and good sportsmanship among members in the training and
exhibition of dogs.
Along with our own objectives, the AKC notes the following in the Regulations & Guidelines for
AKC Hunting Tests for Retrievers Amended August 2011:
Chapter 1, Section 22. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. (A) It shall be deemed
unsportsmanlike conduct if a person during the running of or in connection with an event
abuses or harasses a Judge or official or any other person present in any capacity at the
event. (B) Any person who displays unsportsmanlike conduct or who is seen to kick,
strike, or otherwise roughly manhandle a dog while on the grounds of a Hunting Test at
any time during an event, shall be expelled from the test…
Sportsmen welcome, encourage, and support newcomers to the sport.
Sportsmen refuse to embarrass the sport, the American Kennel Club, or themselves while
taking part in the sport.
Be mindful of these codes of conduct when attending an AKC sanctioned event or a Pinelands
Retriever Club event.
Offer assistance to others before giving assistance. Everyone has their way of training and might
not welcome advice.
Dogs are dogs and under no circumstances is it acceptable to use excessive force on a dog in a
training environment.
If there are any issues that arise at training days or at AKC Hunting Test events, please make an
officer, board member, training day coordinator, or Hunt Test committee member aware of an
issue so it can be handled properly.
If everyone treats everyone and their dogs with respect, we can get the most out of the activities
we are involved in and have fun with our dogs, which is what it is all about.
We are an AKC sanctioned club, able to hold our own hunt tests and field trials. This will give
everyone an opportunity to participate in these events without having to travel long distances.
If you need more information, please contact Karen Deman 609-965-1942 or Andrea Kinsler
302-836-4242. Our Membership Form can also be printed from our website and brought to the
training session or mailed to us.
We hope you will support the Pinelands Retriever Club and help us become a successful club.
